USA-Indian Astronaut: The US State Department said on Thursday (January 26) that Indian-American astronaut Raja J Chari has been nominated by US President Joe Biden for the post of Brigadier General of the Air Force. The State Department said the appointment would be finalized by the Senate, which approves all senior civilian and military appointments.
An official statement said that at present, Raja J Chari Crew-3 commander and space traveler is working in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Johnson Space Center and Texas.

Indian-American astronaut Raja Chari was born in Milwaukee, US, but his home town remained Loa. He attended Columbus High School in Waterloo, Iowa. He is married to Holly Schefter Chari and the couple has three children. He earned a bachelor’s degree in astronautical engineering from the US Air Force Military Academy in Colorado and a master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from the US Naval Test Pilot School, Maryland and the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Served as the commander of the NASA SpaceX Crew-3 mission
Raja Chari served as the commander of the NASA SpaceX Crew-3 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), which was launched on November 10, 2021. He served aboard the ISS as part of Operations 66 and 67 before returning to Earth. He was involved in completing the US agency’s third long-duration commercial crew mission on May 6 last year, and spent 177 days in space orbit with four international crew. His many achievements also include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Aerial Achievement Medal.
